New Stone Retaining Wall and Granite Steps in Weston MA

Our Highlands Masonry team recently completed a new stone retaining wall and granite steps for a client of ours in Weston, MA.

As you can see from the photos, when we arrived the original retaining wall was created from treated wood. As you can imagine, after a few season the wood started to succumb to the elements and rot started to set in. Another issue with wood retaining walls is that often, particularly in areas that do not see enough sunlight, the wall itself can retain moisture and be very slippery to walk on. In this particular instance the client had originally decided to extend the wood treatment over to the stairs as well and the combination of our weather and the natural manner in which wood decays , safety issues were beginning to become acute.  With winter just around the corner, our client decided that they could no longer put this job off.

Our first order of business was to sit with the client and determine the proper style and approach to move forward. In this instance we settled on using gray stones to build the retaining wall and the use of granite steps for the entryway. From a color perspective, the stones and the steps line up very well and balance each other, and both the stones and the steps fit in very nicely with the overall scheme and color composition of the residence. In addition, both the retaining wall and the steps also add a tremendous visual appeal to the entire property which sets a very good tone for any visitors entering the property.

When it came time to focus on the build, our crew took great care to keep our work site neat and to deliver a professional product that will provide value and use for years to come.  As you can see from the middle image, while we devote a great deal of effort to the outward presentation, our crews also devote considerable energy, time and expertise to the overall integrity of our work.

As you can see from the final photos, the retaining wall we delivered extended to both sides of the steps, and the final product is very visually pleasing and this stone wall and granite steps project for our client in Weston should hold up well under many New England winters.
