Summer Lawn Care Tip #1
Mow often. Your lawn can soak up the Summer sun faster than a gaggle of bathing beauties on the beach. Not only does overgrown lawn look unattractive and attract pests, but it can lead to unhealthy grass (more on that in a bit). Ideally, your lawn should be mowed once a week to keep it looking it’s best.
Summer Lawn Care Tip #2
Not too much off the top! When you mow your lawn, you want to make sure you’re not cutting off more than 1/3 of the grass blade at a time. This is best achieved by keeping your grass at about 2 1/2 to 3 inches long in the Summer months and of course by following lawn care tip #1. Why 1/3 you ask? A blade of grass stores all the yummy nutrients it receives from the sun in the top of it’s blade. Cutting your grass too short is the fastest way to turn green grass yellow, just don’t tell Fido we told you that.
Summer Lawn Care Tip #3
Water an inch a week. Early morning is best to avoid mold and such, so set those sprinkler timers to go off before dawn. If you’re not sure how long you need to be watering, a shallow pan or tuna can make great go-to rain gauges. The best watering sessions for your lawn follow the motto of more water, less often. This ensures that grass roots grow deeper into the ground and can better tolerate dryness and water fluctuations.
