This past fall we completed this masonry job, creating a new set of stone steps for a Sudbury resident.
When we arrived at the house the existing set of steps were a mess through no fault of the home owner. The truth is the homeowner had attempted to fix their steps a number of times in the past which we could see as we did our excavation work. What we observed is that whichever company that came in to do a new job simply built on top of the previous job, and so the steps never had the proper foundation to begin with.
Given the extreme elements we face here in New England the original approach to new steps was bound to fail after only a season or two, and unfortunately that is exactly what happened.
After consulting with the homeowner we decided to install granite steps as they provide durability and stability. Granite steps also deliver a wonderful visual.
